Village of life and hearing

a Home of Life and Truth

Temple Myoutatsuji, the Otani sect of Jōdo Shinshū Buddhism, was founded at the beginning of 16th century. The first priest Yuusen came from Toyama country, had a some relationship to the holy priest Rennyo Syōnin. In the middle of  the fertile Plain of Kanazawa, this region had become a most earnest community of the belief in Jōdo Shinshū, through the era Azutimomoyama and Edo.

When new time of Meiji comes, the 18th priest ShoubinHaya Akegarasu), with his teacher Manshi Kiyozawa, made a great contribution to the reform of modern japanese Buddhism. On the talents of thought, poetry, calligraphy, the lifelong journey of preaching Buddhism, and enlightment by many personal publications, Haya was recommended for the President of Otani sect his later years. We can remember his large career, by the exhibition of our temple room, and the introduction DVD of his whole life.

The spirit of Haya was succeeded to 20th Tetsufu (grandson of Kiyozawa).

Myoutatsuji is a doujyou (school) of listening and praying to the truth of Amida Buddha, as well as the open place, where people widely took part in the Buddha's various festivals, and summer schools since early Meiji age. From now on, many events, singing Buddhist hymns in chorus, children's gathering and so on, are planned in the traditional name of Kousoukai again.

And now, many people are coming to see the cultural properties, Rousendou (octagonal shrine), big temple bell tower, and articles left by Haya.
